Abderrahim Fakir death leads Italian emergency societies to issue joint position paper

On 19 July 2026, 42‑year‑old Abderrahim Fakir died during a police and rescue operation in the Pilastro district of Bologna, Italy. Following the incident, nine Italian emergency‑medicine and critical‑care societies—including AIES, ANIARTI, COSMEU, GFT, HEMS, IRC, SIAARTI, SIEMS and SIMEU—signed a joint position paper. The document calls for restraint, stating that there is no scientific evidence that the immediate presence of a doctor would have prevented the death, and urges respect for the victim, his family, and the professionals involved.
