Abdi Nur Salah sentenced to 33 months in Feeding Our Future fraud case

Abdi Nur Salah, a former aide to Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey, has been sentenced to 33 months in federal prison for his involvement in the Feeding Our Future fraud scheme. Salah and his brother, Abdulkadir, pleaded guilty to wire fraud in January 2025.

Prosecutors stated that Salah registered Stigma-Free International, a non-profit used to facilitate the fraud, which operated under the sponsorship of Feeding Our Future. The scheme falsely claimed to have served nearly 5 million meals to children, resulting in Stigma-Free International receiving over $10 million in federal child nutrition funds. Salah personally received $1.6 million.

In addition to his prison term, Salah was ordered to pay $1,063,250 in restitution. Authorities have seized funds from his accounts and are liquidating real estate properties in Brooklyn Park and Minneapolis to satisfy these payments. U.S. District Court Judge Nancy Brasel noted that Salah’s former role as a government employee served as an aggravating factor during sentencing.
