Senegal National Assembly: Deputies clash and announce legal action

Tensions escalated at the Senegal National Assembly on September 30, 2026, following a verbal altercation in the parliamentary corridors between Deputy Abdou Mbow of the Takku Wallu Sénégal opposition group and Deputy Ousmane Fall of the Pastef group.

Takku Wallu Sénégal, led by Me Aïssata Tall Sall, issued a statement describing the incident as ‘verbal violence’ and a violation of parliamentary rules. The opposition group claims Mbow and colleague Thierno Alassane Sall were insulted and targeted. In response, Abdou Mbow has announced intentions to mandate lawyers to file a formal legal complaint against Ousmane Fall.

Conversely, the Pastef parliamentary group has rejected these accusations, offering a different account of the events. Pastef characterized Abdou Mbow’s behavior during the session as ‘virulent and insolent,’ alleging that he engaged in repeated provocations. The majority group maintains that the restraint shown by Ousmane Fall prevented the situation from escalating further and accused the opposition of prioritizing confrontation over legislative debate.
