Senegal political landscape shifts as leaders defect from APR

Senegal is experiencing a significant political realignment as several figures defect from the Alliance pour la République (APR) to join the presidential movement, Kiiraay.

In Kaffrine, former Minister Abdoulaye Seydou Sow has officially broken with the APR, citing his marginalization from decision-making processes, and announced the creation of his own political movement. His departure follows an appeal from Aminata Touré, a supervisor for Kiiraay, who has been actively recruiting members from former ruling parties to strengthen the presidential base.

Other notable shifts include Pape Songo Diouf, the Mayor of Nguékokh, joining Kiiraay to support President Bassirou Diomaye Faye, and Dr. Ahmadou Bamba Kâ leaving the APR in Saint-Louis. Additionally, in Keur Massar Nord, businessman Youssou Adouwa has announced his municipal candidacy and joined the Alternative pour la Relève Citoyenne (ARC). These movements reflect a broader restructuring of the political landscape ahead of upcoming legislative elections.
