Abdul El-Sayed faces scrutiny over medical credentials and healthcare policy
Michigan Democratic Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed is facing scrutiny regarding both his professional credentials and his policy platform. While El-Sayed has frequently identified himself as a physician in public forums and on professional profiles, medical records from Michigan and New York indicate he has never been granted a medical license in those states. Although he holds a medical degree from Columbia University and a doctorate in public health from Oxford University, his clinical experience appears limited to a four-week sub-internship during medical school.
On the policy front, El-Sayed has campaigned on a ‘Medicare for All’ platform, proposing a system with no premiums, copays, or deductibles. Critics argue that such a transition would shift trillions of dollars onto the federal budget and could potentially reduce the quality of care or restrict access by eliminating the cross-subsidization provided by commercial insurance plans.
