Abdul Maikaba targets NPFL promotion with Bayelsa United

Abdul Maikaba, the technical adviser for Bayelsa United, has set a goal to secure the club’s promotion to the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) by the end of the 2026/27 Nigeria National League (NNL) season. Maikaba, who signed a one-year contract, stated that his short-term agreement is directly tied to the mandate of achieving immediate promotion.

Following a pre-season friendly victory against De Go-Pro FC of Sapele, Maikaba noted that the squad-building process is ongoing. Currently, over 60 players are in camp, but the coaching staff intends to trim the roster to a maximum of 35 players before the season begins on October 31. Maikaba emphasized that the recruitment process focuses on identifying players who can add significant value to the team.

Bayelsa United will compete in Conference B of the NNL. Maikaba expressed readiness to face any opponent in the group as the team intensifies preparations for the upcoming campaign.
