Muhaimin Iskandar provides aid to forest fire victims in Indonesia
Muhaimin Iskandar, Chairman of the National Awakening Party (PKB) and Coordinating Minister for Community Empowerment, has launched several humanitarian initiatives to support citizens affected by forest and land fires (karhutla) in Indonesia.
In Ogan Komering Ilir (OKI), South Sumatra, Iskandar distributed 12,000 liters of clean water to residents in the Kayuagung district facing water shortages due to the fires. Additionally, in Pekanbaru, Riau, a ‘Smoke-Free House’ facility was established at the Dar El Hikmah Islamic boarding school to protect students and local residents from hazardous smoke inhalation.
To further address health concerns, Iskandar has called for a ‘one million mask movement,’ encouraging PKB members to provide protective gear to affected communities. The initiative aims to provide ongoing support beyond initial relief efforts as the impact of the fires continues.
