Abdul Wahab Alwi, founder of MRSM, passes away at 84

Abdul Wahab Alwi, the founder of Maktab Rendah Sains MARA (MRSM) known as the ‘Father of MRSM’, has passed away at the age of 84. He died at approximately 3:00 a.m.

Alwi, a former director of the MARA Training Division, was a central figure in the conceptualization and establishment of the MRSM educational system. The MRSM Malaysia Alumni Association (ANSARA) described his passing as a significant loss, noting that his vision created educational pathways for generations of Malaysian students who now serve in various professional sectors, including medicine, engineering, and government.

Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar also expressed condolences, highlighting Alwi’s role in paving the way for the nation’s youth. Funeral prayers were held at Masjid Raja Bendahara Tengku Bandar Shah in Denai Alam, Shah Alam, followed by burial at the Elmina Islamic Cemetery.
