Abdullah Öcalan moved to new facility on Imrali Island

Mithat Sancar, a lawmaker for the pro-Kurdish DEM Party, has confirmed that Abdullah Öcalan, the leader of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK), has been moved to a newly prepared location on Imrali Island. Sancar stated that this relocation is a significant development that necessitates an acceleration of the ongoing peace process, which he noted has been at a standstill for the last two months.

Pervin Buldan, also a member of the DEM Party Imrali Delegation, clarified that while the move may provide more comfortable and workable conditions for Öcalan, the new area remains connected to the prison and does not constitute a change in legal status.

In contrast, Zafer Party leader Ümit Özdağ has made separate allegations, claiming that Öcalan has been appointed to a commission, which he argues would end his prisoner status and allow him to reside in a villa designed as a workspace. There is currently no confirmed decision regarding such an appointment.
