Abdullah Khan Sentencing Set for Oct 12 after Stabbing Dublin Garda and Arson at Conor McGregor's Pub

The Special Criminal Court in Dublin has fixed October 12 as the sentencing date for Abdullah Khan, a 24‑year‑old who pleaded guilty to stabbing Garda Gary Lynch on Capel Street on 29 July and to setting fire to the Black Forge Inn, a bar owned by mixed‑martial‑arts star Conor McGregor, on 25 July.

During the hearing judges criticised Khan’s refusal to take part in court‑ordered risk and psychological assessments, describing his lack of cooperation as “disappointing”. Khan, who shouted “Allahu Akbar” before the attack and expressed support for the Islamic State, claimed he was in a mental‑health crisis and has been homeless. He will remain in custody until his sentence is delivered on 12 October.

Judge Karen O’Connor noted the court had provided ample time and mechanisms for a psychological report, yet Khan indicated he would not engage. The case highlights concerns over radical‑linked violence and the challenges of assessing extremist offenders in the Irish justice system.
