Abdullah Prapashtica recounts 1970s Albanian political organizing in Kosovo

Abdullah Prapashtica, an early figure in Albanian political organization in Kosovo, has shared details regarding the formation of political groups in the 1970s during an appearance on RTV Dukagjini’s “Dosjet” program.

Prapashtica stated that the decision to organize was driven by the historical circumstances of the time and the limited political status of Albanians within Yugoslavia. He emphasized that his involvement was primarily motivated by national and patriotic interests rather than ideology, specifically focusing on the fate of the Albanian people.

Reflecting on the 1968 demonstrations, Prapashtica noted that while demands for a university and the use of the flag were met, the demand for a Kosovo Republic remained unfulfilled. He explained that his group had expected the issue of a Kosovo Republic to be addressed at the 10th Congress of the League of Communists of Yugoslavia, but when it was not, they moved toward formal political organization. He also noted that the group's Marxist-Leninist orientation was influenced by the socialist status of Albania at the time.
