Abdullahi Gali Shitu Returns to Tailoring After Court Ousts Kano LG Chairman

Abdullahi Gali Shitu, former chairman of the Kumbotso Local Government Area in Kano State, was removed from office by a court in March 2026. Within months he resumed work at his tailoring workshop in Sheka Ward, overseeing about 20 apprentices and employing roughly 20 staff.

Shitu, also known as Comrade Abdullahi Gali Basaf, said the move aims to show that politics should not be a sole source of livelihood and that vocational trades provide lasting stability. He plans to modernise his tailoring operation into a garment‑manufacturing company that could employ 50 or more people. Holding bachelor’s and master’s degrees in political science, Shitu stressed that public office is temporary, while a trade endures.

He urged Nigerian youths to value skilled trades, arguing that tailoring sustained his political campaigns and offered a reliable income beyond the uncertainties of elected positions.
