Abdul‑Samed Sulemana, Ghana's tallest man, dies at 33

Abdul‑Samed Sulemana, known as “Awuche,” the 7‑foot‑8‑inch‑tall Ghanaian figure who gained national and international attention for his height and the health challenges of gigantism, died in the early hours of 27 July 2026 at Tamale Teaching Hospital. He was 33 years old and had been receiving treatment for complications linked to his condition, including a severe leg infection that required surgery.

His death follows weeks of public appeals for financial help, after businessman and philanthropist Ibrahim Mahama pledged to cover his medical expenses. Tributes poured in across Ghana, with many recalling Sulemana’s gentle personality and resilience despite years of health struggles.
