Abel Olumuyiwa Enitan appointed Head of Nigeria's Civil Service

President Bola Tinubu has appointed Dr. Abel Olumuyiwa Enitan as the new Head of the Civil Service of the Federation (HoCSF). The appointment, which takes effect on August 27, 2026, follows the retirement of the outgoing Head of Service, Didi Esther Walson-Jack, who is reaching the mandatory retirement age of 60.

Enitan, currently the Permanent Secretary in the Federal Ministry of Education, is noted as the longest-serving Permanent Secretary in the Federal Civil Service. His career includes significant roles within the Ministry of Police Affairs, the Ministry of Environment, the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, and the Office of the Vice President.

The Association of Senior Civil Servants of Nigeria (ASCSN) has endorsed the appointment, describing Enitan as a “tested career officer” with the necessary institutional knowledge to lead the nation’s bureaucracy. The association noted that his diverse experience across various strategic ministries would provide a unique advantage in driving reforms and improving service delivery.
