Abelardo de la Espriella Announces Health Plan, Rejects Hair Implant Rumor

Colombia’s president‑elect Abelardo de la Espriella responded to viral social‑media speculation that he had undergone a hair implant. He said his hair is natural, dismissing the claim and joking that his appearance is due to “discipline, good genetics and expensive shampoo.”

At the same time, Espriella’s incoming administration, coordinated by Iván Sánchez, launched the Consensos por la Salud initiative. Over the past eight months the group gathered more than 30 health‑sector entities—including patient groups, scientific societies, medical colleges, hospitals, EPS and academic institutions—to draft a common technical agenda. The new government plans to inject COP 10 trillion into the health system, stabilize public‑subsidized health insurers (EPS), adjust the UPC financing mechanism, and centralize medication procurement to improve availability and reduce costs. Experts warn that clarifying how the funds will be allocated and establishing a stable financial plan for EPS are critical early tasks.
