Abelardo De la Espriella receives musical endorsement from Yeison Jiménez’s widow and popular artists
The widow of late Colombian singer Yeison Jiménez, together with several well‑known vallenato performers—including Pipe Bueno, Alzate, Francy, Ciro Quiñonez and Juan Pablo Navarrete—released an adapted version of Jiménez’s hit “MLP” to back presidential candidate Abelardo De la Espriella of the “Firmes por la Patria” coalition. The video, posted on social media in mid‑June, calls voters to support De la Espriella in the June 21 runoff that will determine Gustavo Petro’s successor.
The campaign announcement also featured television presenter Jessica Cediel, who filmed a video urging Colombians to vote for De la Espriella, echoing the slogan “Firme por la Patria.” Artists referenced Jiménez’s earlier intent to endorse De la Espriella and warned against a second left‑wing term, while De la Espriella pledged lower costs for entrepreneurs and criticised the opposition as “radical left.” The endorsement aims to mobilise fans of popular Colombian music ahead of the decisive second round.
