Abelardo de la Espriella sanctions 11 laws in first month of presidency

During the first month of President Abelardo de la Espriella’s administration, the government has sanctioned 11 laws covering sectors such as education, culture, commerce, mobility, and animal protection. Notable legislation includes Law 2622, which designates the ‘Festival Nacional Son del Negro’ in Santa Lucía, Atlántico, as national historical, ethnic, and cultural heritage, authorizing budget allocations for a dedicated museum and monument.

However, the administration faces criticism from Senator Walter Rodríguez of the Pacto Histórico. Rodríguez has characterized the first month as a period of regression, claiming the country has moved back 30 years. He specifically cited setbacks in education and environmental policies, criticized the government’s improvised response to national emergencies, such as recent earthquakes, and warned against the imposition of a religious agenda.
