Abengourou authorities destroy 109 dredges in illegal mining crackdown

The Abengourou Gendarmerie Legion, supported by the Special Group for the Fight Against Illegal Gold Mining (GSLOI), conducted a series of operations in the Indénié-Djuablin region from August 16 to August 27, 2026. The interventions targeted clandestine gold mining sites across several localities, including Aniassué, Bébou, Ebilassokro, and areas along the Comoé River.

Authorities dismantled numerous illegal installations located on both land and in waterways. The operations resulted in the destruction of 109 dredges, 134 motor pumps, 204 crushers, 200 washing devices, and 189 makeshift shelters. Three suspects were also taken into custody during the crackdown on illegal gold extraction and processing.
