Abengourou implements road safety and education initiatives
In Abengourou, the Indénié-Djuablin region is implementing several new initiatives for the 2026-2027 period. The Jeune Chambre Internationale (JCI), in partnership with regional transport authorities, launched a road safety awareness campaign titled ‘The road is not a playground.’ The campaign focuses on the high prevalence of two-wheeled vehicles in the area and emphasizes the necessity of wearing helmets to reduce traumatic brain injuries.
Simultaneously, regional education officials announced an expansion of the local school map to improve educational access. For the upcoming school year, four new local middle schools will open in Akoikro, Adaou, Adoukoffikro, and Djangobo. This expansion includes three new preschools and 14 primary schools. Additionally, officials noted that a flagship project for a girls' excellence high school with boarding facilities remains under construction. The region has also seen a boost in teaching staff following a national recruitment drive earlier in the year, helping to address shortages in mathematics and physics-chemistry.
