Abenójar tungsten mine begins operations as strategic EU project

The 'El Moto' tungsten mine in Abenójar, operated by Abenójar Tungsten (ABT), has officially commenced operations. Recognized by the European Commission as a strategic project under the European Critical Raw Materials Act, the mine is intended to bolster the European Union's supply of tungsten, a mineral essential for the defense, aerospace, medical, and technology sectors.

To support the mining activity, a new transformation and refining plant will be established in Puertollano. This integrated refinery aims to ensure that the processing of the mineral remains within Spanish territory. The project is expected to create approximately 200 jobs in Puertollano, while the mine itself is projected to generate more than 400 direct jobs.

Castilla-La Mancha President Emiliano García-Page highlighted the project's geopolitical importance, noting that it contributes to the strategic autonomy of both Spain and Europe amidst international competition for critical resources.
