Aberdeen campaign aims to establish North-east Scotland as Europe’s energy capital

True North Advisors has launched a new campaign to position Aberdeen and the North-east of Scotland as Europe’s capital of energy excellence. The initiative aims to reshape the global perception of the region by highlighting its diverse energy capabilities beyond its traditional oil and gas heritage.

The campaign will showcase the region’s expertise in sectors including offshore wind, hydrogen, carbon capture, subsea engineering, decommissioning, and emerging energy technologies. It specifically highlights the North-east’s growing strength in subsea robotics, autonomous systems, and marine technology, which are increasingly being applied to offshore renewables, defense, and maritime security.

The North-east contains the highest concentration of energy supply chain companies in the UK and holds a significant portion of the world’s subsea engineering capability. Additionally, approximately three-quarters of Scotland’s existing and planned offshore wind capacity is located off the North-east coast. The region is also home to major organizations such as Offshore Energies UK, the Net Zero Technology Centre, the Global Underwater Hub, and the National Decommissioning Centre.
