Aberdeen Council urged to extend deadline for RAAC‑affected homes

Homeowners in Aberdeen’s Torry area, where reinforced autoclaved aerated concrete (RAAC) was found in roofs, have asked the city council to lengthen a 14‑day deadline to decide on remedial action. The council warned that failure to respond could trigger formal enforcement action, and has already purchased several private houses for voluntary acquisition. Residents fear losing their homes and have expressed anxiety over the rapid timeline.

Campaigner John Meiklejohn criticized the council’s email notice as “utterly reprehensible”, while homeowner Jumoke Adebajo, recovering from illness, said, “It’s not fair the way we are being treated.” The council maintains it remains willing to work with owners to find a resolution.
