Abhishek Banerjee alleges electoral malpractice and criticizes central agencies
Trinamool Congress (TMC) National General Secretary Abhishek Banerjee has alleged large-scale electoral malpractices in West Bengal, claiming that 30 lakh voter names were deleted under the pretext of resolving logical discrepancies. Banerjee argued that such actions call into question the legitimacy of the current mandate and warned that officials involved would face legal repercussions once the BJP is no longer in power.
Banerjee also criticized the timing of certain administrative appointments, questioning why Manoj Agarwal was appointed State Chief Secretary before the Model Code of Conduct concluded. He further questioned the appointment of State Observer Subrata Gupta as a political advisor to the Chief Minister following the election.
In a separate critique, Banerjee addressed the investigation into the Chorbagan Durga Puja pandal stampede, which resulted in 19 deaths on October 17. He accused central agencies, including the ED and CBI, and the Kolkata Police of strategic maneuvers and political bias. While a Special Investigation Team is investigating negligence in the stampede, Banerjee alleged that law enforcement has targeted minor players while failing to hold politically connected committee leaders accountable.
