Abhishek Banerjee faces court denial on voice sample and new traffic complaint in West Bengal

A single‑judge of the Calcutta High Court refused to grant immediate relief to Trinamool Congress leader Abhishek Banerjee after he challenged the police request to collect his voice sample in the so‑called “DJ remark” case. The judge directed that Banerjee’s plea be placed before the Acting Chief Justice for assignment to the appropriate bench, noting that related matters are already pending before a coordinate bench. The case stems from Banerjee’s election‑campaign comment that DJs would play music loudly after results were announced, which a voter alleged was intimidating.

Separately, a Kolkata resident filed a seven‑page complaint with Kalighat Police Station accusing Banerjee and the driver of his convoy of dangerous traffic violations. The allegation cites a photograph showing people standing on the exterior footboard of a moving SUV, a practice prohibited under the Motor Vehicles Act and related statutes. Police have registered the complaint and opened an inquiry.
