Abhishek Banerjee granted interim protection by Calcutta High Court
The Calcutta High Court has granted interim protection to Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Abhishek Banerjee against arrest and strict police action in three additional cases filed by the West Bengal Police. This brings the total number of cases against the MP to 16, with interim protection already secured in 13 previous matters.
Abhijit Das, a BJP member and petitioner who filed several FIRs against Banerjee, has expressed serious concerns regarding his safety. Das alleged that he has been physically attacked multiple times under Banerjee's orders, resulting in significant injuries. Following the granting of interim protection, Das claimed that his CISF security was removed, leaving him vulnerable.
As the Supreme Court has permitted Banerjee to travel abroad for three weeks for eye treatment, Das expressed fear that the MP could potentially order harm against him from overseas. Das described the MP as dangerous and stated that the police have a responsibility to ensure his protection.
