Abhishek Banerjee hit with police summons, traffic case in West Bengal

Trinamool Congress general secretary Abhishek Banerjee has accused the BJP‑led West Bengal government of political intimidation, saying state agencies abruptly summoned about 25 of his associates without legal notice, tapped phones and harassed family members. He wrote on X, “Over the past couple of weeks, STF/CID @WBPolice has without proper notice and in violation of basic legal safeguards, abruptly summoned or randomly picked up nearly 25 people connected to my office… They are being intimidated, threatened and pressured to give false statements… Phones are being tapped and even family members including women are being harassed and threatened.”

Separately, police have lodged an FIR against Banerjee for a traffic‑violation case. A complaint alleges his security guards drove dangerously, violating the Motor Vehicle Act, 1988. Despite a notice to submit documents, Banerjee has not provided the requested paperwork, and authorities may issue another notice. The case cites sections related to rash driving and endangering public safety.
