Abhishek Banerjee’s bank account freeze lifted by Calcutta High Court
The Calcutta High Court has disposed of a case regarding the freezing of Trinamool Congress general secretary and Diamond Harbour MP Abhishek Banerjee’s personal bank account. The bank informed the court that the debit restrictions and the blocking of his debit and credit cards have been lifted following the completion of required KYC (Know Your Customer) updates.
Bank counsel stated the freeze was not intentional but was a standard procedure triggered after Banerjee’s name was linked to another case. The restrictions had occurred shortly before Banerjee’s scheduled medical trip to the United States.
In his ruling, Justice Krishna Rao advised bank authorities to always inform customers in advance before imposing debit restrictions, noting that this practice should be applied to all customers, not just the petitioner.
