Abhishek Banerjee's Court Battles Over Office Demolition and Medical Travel

The Calcutta High Court has extended the interim stay on the demolition of Trinamool Congress General Secretary and Diamond Harbour MP Abhishek Banerjee's party office in Amtala, South 24 Parganas, until August 21. The demolition, which began after the district administration said the building lacked valid plans and approvals, was previously stayed until August 6.

In a separate hearing, the High Court dismissed Banerjee's petition to travel abroad for eye treatment. The court ordered him to appear before a three‑member medical board at SSKM Hospital in Kolkata to assess whether treatment can be provided locally, noting there is no medical emergency and citing pending criminal cases against him. Earlier, the Supreme Court had sent the matter back to the High Court for a prompt decision.

Banerjee, nephew of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, faces multiple legal challenges, including the demolition case and restrictions on foreign travel pending court approval.
