Abhishek Banerjee's Kolkata home raided in pre‑dawn police operation

In a pre‑dawn raid that began shortly after 3 am on Saturday, police from Paschim Medinipur’s Salboni station, assisted by Kolkata police and central forces, searched the Kalighat residence of Trinamool Congress national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee. The operation lasted more than four hours; officers broke a lock to enter the house, searched the entire premises and said they were looking for the MP’s personal assistant in connection with a financial‑fraud case registered at Salboni police station. No immediate information was given about any documents or material seized.

The raid prompted former West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee to rush to the site and remain there as the area filled with TMC supporters. It follows recent West Bengal CID questioning of Banerjee over an alleged forged‑signature case, a summons from the Enforcement Directorate regarding primary‑school recruitment irregularities, and a pending cyber‑complaint notice. Banerjee has been asked to appear before the CID on June 16.
