Abhishek Sharma rises to second in ICC T20I rankings

Abhishek Sharma has risen to second place in the latest ICC T20I batting rankings following a standout performance against Afghanistan. His ascent follows a blistering 82 runs off 32 balls in the first T20I of the series, an innings that included seven fours and seven sixes.

India secured a seven-wicket victory in the series opener, leading the three-match series 2-0. While Sharma climbed the rankings, his teammate Ishan Kishan maintained the top position in the T20I batting charts. Other Indian players also saw movement in the rankings, including Sanju Samson, Varun Chakaravarthy, and Jasprit Bumrah.

Sharma’s father, Raj Kumar Sharma, commented on the performance, noting that the player prioritizes team success over individual milestones like scoring a century. The performance marks a significant turnaround for Sharma after a period of inconsistent form in previous series against Ireland and Zimbabwe.
