Abhishek Sharma sets T20I record with 100 powerplay sixes
Indian opening batter Abhishek Sharma has become the first player to hit 100 sixes during the powerplay in men’s T20 Internationals. He reached the milestone during the second T20I against New Zealand in Christchurch, striking a six off bowler Matt Henry in the third over.
With this achievement, Sharma surpassed the previous record of 98 powerplay sixes held by former Indian captain Rohit Sharma. Since his T20I debut in 2024, Sharma has maintained a high strike rate of 193.36, which is the highest for any batter with at least 1,000 runs in the format.
Despite the historic feat, Sharma scored 27 runs off 21 deliveries before being dismissed by Mitchell Santner. India eventually secured a four-wicket victory over New Zealand, aided by an unbeaten 51 from Tilak Varma.
