Abia and Oyo States Expand Electric Bus Fleets

Governor Alex Otti of Abia State inaugurated 20 additional electric buses, bringing the state’s Green Shuttle fleet to 40 vehicles. The ceremony at the Prof. Nnenna Oti Bus Terminal highlighted the administration’s push for environmentally friendly transport and included a warning that traffic violations would face stricter penalties, with enforcement agencies ordered to operate until 10 p.m. daily.

In Oyo State, Secretary to the State Government Prof. Musibau Babatunde announced plans to deploy 50 electric buses as part of Governor Seyi Makinde’s promise to improve public transportation. The rollout follows a strong first‑half‑2026 fiscal performance, with revenue reaching ₦406.9 billion. The new buses will serve intra‑city and inter‑city routes, aiming to lower transport costs for residents.

Both states are investing in electric vehicle fleets to modernise mass transit, reduce emissions, and enhance mobility for their populations.
