Abia State Governor Alex Otti marks 35th anniversary with healthcare and welfare reforms

Abia State Governor Alex Otti has marked the 35th anniversary of the state’s creation with a series of announcements focused on governance, infrastructure, and social welfare. In a statewide broadcast, Otti emphasized that the state’s future must be driven by value creation rather than mineral resources. He also announced the commencement of payments for accumulated gratuity arrears dating back to 2001, promising that retirees will receive their entitlements promptly upon leaving service.

To expand healthcare access, the Governor inaugurated the 80-bed Chima Ubani General Hospital in the Obingwa Local Government Area. The facility features digital health technology, telehealth capabilities, and renewable energy systems. The hospital was named in honor of the late pro-democracy activist Chima Ubani.

Addressing administrative accountability, Otti ordered an investigation into the alleged unlawful stoppage of a civil servant's salary by the Director General of the Office of the Bureau of Due Process. He stressed that all disciplinary actions must follow established legal procedures and transparency. Additionally, the Governor highlighted his administration's progress in infrastructure, noting that over 1,000 kilometers of roads have been repaired to support economic growth.
