Abia State government denies plans to ban commercial tricycles

The Abia State government has denied reports suggesting a potential ban on commercial tricycles, commonly known as Keke. Commissioner for Information Prince Okey Kanu stated that the administration intends to regulate rather than prohibit these operators to improve transportation efficiency and reduce urban congestion.

Kanu noted that the number of operators in the state has risen due to restrictions in neighboring regions. The government's current focus is on streamlining operations to create a cleaner and more organized transport system.

Additionally, the state is working to repatriate Abia residents affected by xenophobic attacks in South Africa. The Ministry of Poverty Alleviation and Social Protection is coordinating the identification and verification of stranded citizens to facilitate their safe return and reintegration.
