Abia State Governor Alex Otti implements salary reforms and security policies
Abia State Governor Alex Otti has addressed both security and healthcare administration within the state. During a ceremony honoring outgoing security commanders, Otti attributed recent security improvements to his administration’s policy of non-interference in security operations. He stated that he does not use his office to influence police or security personnel regarding the release of individuals, asserting that such actions undermine the integrity of the system.
In a separate development regarding healthcare, Governor Otti directed the immediate implementation of the harmonized 2023 and 2025 Consolidated Medical Salary Structure (CONMESS) for staff at the Abia State University Teaching Hospital (ABSUTH) in Aba. The Governor emphasized that his administration allocates 15 percent of the state budget to healthcare to ensure affordable and quality services.
Otti also reported that the state has recovered several ABSUTH facilities that had been concessioned to private entities by the previous administration. He noted that efforts are ongoing to reposition the teaching hospital as a world-class institution, with initial phases focusing on restoring lost accreditations.
