Abia State seals Aba residence over discovery of human waste

The Abia State Environmental Protection Agency (ASEPA) has sealed a residential building at No. 16 Ibadan Street in Aba, Abia State, following the discovery of over 100 bags of human excreta stored on the premises.

During an inspection, officials found four basins of human waste in a building corridor and a sewage tank located inside a downstairs room, positioned directly beneath a bed used by occupants. ASEPA described the situation as a serious public health threat that could potentially trigger an epidemic.

The premises were sealed on August 18, 2026, under a court order. The building will remain closed until required corrective measures are implemented. While the official purpose for storing the waste has not been confirmed, some local residents have alleged that the excreta were being sold to farmers as manure for approximately N10,000 per bag.
