Abia State to host 2026 World Igbo Day

Abia State has announced its readiness to host the 2026 World Igbo Day on September 28 and 29. This marks a significant return for the pan-Igbo annual event, which has previously been held outside of Nigeria.

Under the theme ‘Njikọ Aka’, the celebration is expected to draw South-East governors and prominent Igbo leaders to Umuahia. The program will include a keynote lecture titled ‘The Igbo Charter and the Development of Ala Igbo’, an interdenominational church service, and the laying of wreaths to honor fallen Igbo heroes and heroines. Other scheduled activities include traditional dances, a march-past by state delegations, and various speeches.

Information Commissioner Prince Okey Kanu stated that the event serves as a platform for the Igbo people to reflect on their unity, shared identity, and collective contributions to the development of Igboland.
