Abia State University reinstates lecturer suspended over salary posts

Abia State University (ABSU) has lifted the indefinite suspension of Professor Nnamdi Nwaeze, a lecturer in the Department of Economics. The decision follows a written plea from the university's chapter of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).

Nwaeze was originally suspended after posting on Facebook regarding the university's financial conditions, specifically claiming that professors' monthly salaries were below N400,000. His suspension had triggered industrial action by the ASUU-ABSU chapter, making his reinstatement a condition for ending the strike.

In a letter signed by Acting Registrar Dr. Joy Nwankwo, the university stated that the lifting of the suspension is “without prejudice to the extant investigative panel on you, whose ultimate report is being awaited.” Nwaeze described the reinstatement as a “momentary reprieve,” noting that the university has retreated but not yet surrendered to justice regarding the ongoing investigation into his conduct.
