Abia Warriors coach targets Rivers United win to close NPFL gap

Abia Warriors head coach Imama Amapakabo has stated that his team must defeat Rivers United in their upcoming Matchday 8 fixture to remain competitive in the 2026/27 NPFL title race.

The Umuahia-based club is scheduled to host Rivers United at the Enyimba International Stadium in Aba. Currently, Abia Warriors have secured eight points from seven matches, leaving them eight points behind the league leaders, defending champions Rangers International.

Rivers United, last season’s runners-up, remain unbeaten this campaign and currently sit second in the standings with 15 points. Amapakabo noted that the opponent's unbeaten streak serves as motivation for his players and emphasized the need to close the gap to make a commanding statement in the league.
