Abian education officials prepare for 2026–2027 school year

In Abian Governorate, Yemen, education officials are preparing for the 2026–2027 academic year. Dr. Nabil Mohammed Muhaim, Director General of the Abian Education Office, conducted inspection tours in the Zinjibar and Khanfar districts to assess school readiness and meet with teaching staff.

During these visits, officials noted significant infrastructure issues, specifically at the Sumaya Umm Ammar school in the Al-Makhzan area, where structural damage and ceiling collapses necessitate the construction of a new building to ensure student safety.

Additionally, a summer educational and vocational camp for 200 female students recently concluded in Khanfar. The program provided academic reinforcement in subjects like Arabic, Mathematics, and English, alongside vocational training in sewing, henna, and cosmetology.

Amidst these preparations, reports highlight the economic challenges facing families and civil servants. Concerns have been raised regarding the rising cost of school supplies and the impact of irregular salary payments and insufficient cost-of-living adjustments on the ability of households to support students for the upcoming term.
