ABICK S.A. proposes salmon processing plant in Bahía Riquelme

ABICK S.A. has initiated dialogue with artisanal fishermen regarding a proposed salmon harvesting and processing plant in Bahía Riquelme, located on the Antonio Varas peninsula. The project is currently in the processing stage, seeking necessary environmental and sectoral authorizations and concessions.

The proposal includes a maritime infrastructure system for live salmon harvesting, utilizing a pontoon located approximately 80 meters from the shore. A submarine pipeline would then transport the fish to a future processing facility.

Regional presidential delegate Ericka Farías Guerra met with company representatives and fishing leaders to discuss the project's compatibility with existing local uses. A primary concern is whether the infrastructure will interfere with Bahía Riquelme's role as a sheltered port and anchoring zone for fishing vessels during adverse weather. Farías Guerra noted that the project could generate new employment opportunities for the Última Esperanza province once all regulatory requirements are met.
