Abidjan police arrest VTC driver for theft of passenger belongings

A 29-year-old VTC driver has been arrested in Abidjan after allegedly stealing personal belongings left behind by a passenger. The incident occurred on Wednesday, September 30, 2026, when a passenger traveling from Yopougon to a bus station in Adjamé realized a bag containing a laptop, two tablets, and original administrative documents had been left on the rear seat.

Although the driver initially promised via telephone to return the items, he failed to do so. Following a formal complaint, the Brigade de Recherche et d'Intervention d'Abidjan Nord (BRI-Nord) conducted an investigation that led to the suspect's arrest at his home. A search of the residence resulted in the recovery of all the stolen electronic equipment.

During interrogation, the suspect admitted to the theft, stating he intended to sell the devices on the parallel market to resolve financial difficulties. The arrest was carried out as part of the ‘Vacances sécurisées XI’ (VS XI) security initiative aimed at combating urban crime.
