Abigail Favale releases book on gender theory and Christianity
Dr. Abigail Favale, a former scholar of feminist theory and gender studies, is releasing her book, ‘Collision: Gender vs. a Christian View of Sex’ (Zderzenie. Gender kontra chrześcijańskie spojrzenie na płeć), in Poland. The book, published by the Ordo Iuris Institute, details Favale’s personal transition from a postmodern feminist academic to a Catholic convert.
Favale explores the evolution of feminism through nine chapters, tracing the trajectory from the Book of Genesis to contemporary gender paradigms. She specifically examines the impact of Simone de Beauvoir’s distinction between biological and cultural sex and how this concept has evolved into a separation of bodily identity from personhood.
The work analyzes how academic gender theories permeate public institutions, including schools, workplaces, and medical settings. Rather than advocating for traditional gender stereotypes, Favale proposes a Christian vision of the person, drawing on the thought of Edith Stein and the theology of the body by Pope John Paul II, viewing the body as a meaningful gift rather than an obstacle to identity.
