Abin warns of potential U.S. interference in Brazilian elections

The Brazilian Intelligence Agency (Abin) has produced a confidential report warning of potential influence or interference by the United States in Brazil's upcoming elections. The document, which was sent to the Presidency, the Superior Electoral Court (TSE), and the Ministry of Justice in late August, highlights a trend of escalating pressure from the U.S. on Brazil.

According to the report, Brazilian intelligence classifies the possibility of external interference at a “nível de criticidade” (criticality level). The assessment suggests that the second administration of Donald Trump prioritizes the reaffirmation of U.S. hegemony in Latin America to distance rivals, such as China, from strategic assets, natural resources, and regional infrastructure.

Abin's evaluation indicates that U.S. actions toward Brazil have intensified in recent months, encompassing not only electoral interference concerns but also economic and political measures deemed harmful to Brazilian national interests. Despite these tensions, President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva has publicly maintained a stance of seeking good diplomatic and commercial relations, citing a perceived personal rapport with Trump established during the 2025 UN General Assembly.
