Abini community youths renounce cult membership

Dozens of youths in the Abini community, located in the Biase Local Government Area of Cross River State, have publicly renounced their membership in various cult groups. The mass renunciation follows recent police activity in the area, including the arrest of 10 suspected members of the Neo Black Axe Movement of Africa (NBM) during an initiation ceremony. During that operation, authorities recovered a locally made pistol, a battle axe, a dagger, and other items.

The renunciation process was facilitated through a collaboration between the Cross River State Police Command, the Abini Elite association, and the Laurahope Care and Rescue Foundation. Participants, including those associated with the Vikings, Klans, and Axemen cults, signed peace undertakings to shun violence and criminality. Community leaders have called for government support through skills acquisition and empowerment programs to ensure these youths do not return to illegal activities.
