Abir Moussi hospitalized in critical condition

Abir Moussi, president of the Parti destourien libre (PDL), has been transferred to a hospital in urgent condition following a visit from her lawyer, Hatem Chelly, at the Bulla Regia prison on August 27, 2026.

Chelly described Moussi’s health as ‘critical,’ reporting that she is suffering from widespread pain, respiratory difficulties, and significant physical exhaustion. The lawyer raised concerns regarding her detention conditions, citing high temperatures and a lack of ventilation or air conditioning in her cell. He further stated that Moussi had requested medical attention for several days without success before the prison administration ordered her emergency transfer.

Moussi was originally arrested on October 3, 2023, while attempting to file legal appeals against presidential decrees. In March 2026, the Tunis Court of Appeal sentenced her to ten years in prison. The sentence included nine years for ‘attempting to undermine the form of the State, inciting citizens to attack one another with weapons, and spreading unrest in the territory,’ as well as additional time for unauthorized personal data processing and obstructing freedom of work.
