Abissnet Superiore announces new format for 2026-2027 season

The 2026-2027 Abissnet Superiore football season in Albania is scheduled to begin on August 21, 2026. The new season introduces a restructured format consisting of 27 regular weeks divided into three phases. Following the regular season, teams will split into two groups: the top six teams will enter a play-off, while the bottom four will compete in a play-out. To maintain competitiveness, points earned during the regular phase will be halved before the play-off and play-out stages begin.

New regulations aim to promote youth development by mandating that every team must play at least one player born in 2007 or later with an Albanian passport for a portion of each match in both the league and the Albanian Cup. Additionally, match schedules will be organized into four specific time slots (13:30, 16:00, 18:30, and 21:00) to optimize broadcasting and fan engagement.

The opening match of the season will feature Vllaznia against Skënderbeu. The schedule for the first five weeks has been finalized by the Leagues and Competitions Commission.
