ABN Global launches Mindanao AI initiative to combat regional brain drain
ABN Global Infinities Corporation, a systems integration and engineering firm based in Davao City, has launched the Mindanao AI and Computing Excellence (MAICE) initiative. The program aims to advance artificial intelligence research and development while building a local tech workforce to prevent the regional brain drain of skilled engineers to Manila or overseas.
The initiative focuses on creating AI applications tailored to the specific needs of the Southern Philippines, including agriculture, healthcare, disaster resilience, and public services. CEO Alvin Suemitsu stated that the goal is to keep AI talent within Mindanao by providing local opportunities for researchers and engineers.
Academic leaders, including Dr. Randell Espina of Ateneo de Davao University, noted that Mindanao’s solar potential could support the energy requirements for AI computing infrastructure, provided that advancements in battery storage and complementary technologies are implemented.
