ABNT establishes sustainability rules for Amazon Seal Program

The Brazilian Association of Technical Standards (ABNT) has published the ABNT NBR 20260:2026, establishing general sustainability requirements for the Amazon Seal Program (Programa Selo Amazônia). This standard applies to industrialized products and services proven to be produced or provided within the Legal Amazon using inputs from the biome.

Developed in collaboration with the Ministry of Development, Industry, Commerce and Services (MDIC) and the National Quality Infrastructure Strategy (ENIQ), the norm sets environmental, economic, and social criteria covering the entire life cycle of products. The initiative aims to promote a development model that balances sustainable production with forest conservation, stimulating biobusinesses and increasing income for local populations.

Following this publication, implementation steps will include creating three sectoral standards for priority chains, training interested companies, and conducting audits for official certification issuance.
