Senegal Gendarmerie seizes over 1 billion CFA in counterfeit currency

The Senegalese Gendarmerie has dismantled a major counterfeit currency network following operations in Dakar, Mbour, Thiès, and Louga. Six individuals were arrested in connection with the scheme.

Authorities seized foreign currency with a total estimated value exceeding 1.1 billion CFA francs. The haul included 6,600 one-hundred-dollar US bills (approximately 376.2 million CFA), 10,000 one-hundred-euro bills (650 million CFA), and 1,200 black one-hundred-euro bills intended for chemical washing (approximately 78.7 million CFA).

In addition to the currency, investigators recovered a Taurus 9mm automatic pistol, various ammunition, a bulletproof vest, a dagger, counterfeit stamps, and bottles suspected of containing mercury. The investigation is ongoing to identify potential national and international accomplices.
